Panic has spread around the world since the coincidence of the new variant of Corona Omicron. Due to the large number of mutations in this variant, researchers have been concerned about Omicron from the very beginning. It has been described by the World Health Organization as a variant of concern. However, not much is known about Omicron so far. In the meantime, Dr. Anthony Fauci, an American infectious disease specialist, gave a message of relief to the people.

In an interview with AFP, Fauci said the Omicron is not as harmful as the Delta. It may still take a long time to understand the overall character of this new variant. However, a few things have already become quite clear. They are –

Ability for infection

Fauci said that Omicron is highly contagious. Omicron has the ability to transmit faster than Delta.

It can pierce immunity

Can Omicron Pierce Immunity or Immunity from Corona Vaccine or Previous Covid Infection? In response to this question, Fauci said yes. The virus can penetrate the immune system and enter anyone’s body.   Fauci said antibodies made from existing corona vaccines have been tested to see how effective they are against Omicron. That report will come in the next few days.

Severity of Omicron

The former form of Omicron corona virus is less deadly than Delta, said Dr. Fauci. According to Fauci, the number of Delta variants infections and the number of hospitalizations were much higher. But a closer look at data from South Africa shows that the rate of Omicron infection and hospitalization is currently lower than in Delta. This new variant of Corona is the first of its kind in South Africa. Since then, Omicron has spread to about 37 countries around the world.

This new variant of Corona has more than 50 mutations. Therefore, the World Health Organization and scientists have already warned that it should not be taken lightly. However, patients with Omicron do not suffer from problems such as loss of taste and smell, and shortness of breath.
